These Empty Tomb Crescent Rolls are such an easy and fun recipe to make with kids at Easter. They give you the opportunity to teach the kids about the resurrection of Christ in a fun {and delicious} way.

In this semi-homemade version you’ve got a soft crescent roll formed around a cinnamon-sugar coated marshmallow and dipped in more butter and cinnamon sugar. As the crescent rolls bake, the marshmallow melts into a gooey, sweet caramel sauce inside the dough. Whether you make them at Easter, or anytime of the year, these are a sweet and sticky dessert that everyone will love.

How To Make Empty Tomb Crescent Rolls

Only needing minimal ingredients and less than 30 minutes of your time, you’ve got one of the best Easter recipes around.

Ingredients:

ingredients needed for recipe sitting on a white counter

  • Crescent Rolls
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Marshmallows
  • Butter

Instructions:

a crescent triangle sitting on a white plate, a marshmallow coated in butter and cinnamon-sugar sitting on top. Bowls of melted butter and cinnamon sugar next to plate, with marshmallows

Separate your crescent rolls into individual triangles. Put the melted butter in one small bowl, and combine the cinnamon and sugar in a separate small bowl. Dip a marshmallow into the melted butter and then into the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Lay the marshmallow into the center of the crescent roll. Wrap the crescent around the marshmallow, making sure to seal all of the edges. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE SEALED VERY WELL, otherwise the marshmallow will melt out.

Dip the tops of the crescent roll into the remaining melted butter and then dip into the remaining cinnamon sugar. Place them into a greased muffin tin, with the sugar side facing up. Bake ’em!

Symbolism of the Empty Tomb Crescent Rolls

As you make these, you can explain to your kids that the crescent roll represents the Tomb Jesus was buried in. The white marshmallow represents the body of Jesus, pure and sinless. The melted butter and cinnamon/sugar represent the oils and spices that the women brought to anoint His body. The disappearing marshmallow and the cavity in the bun after being cooked become the empty tomb and His rising from the grave!

Can I Make These Rolls in Advance?

Absolutely you can prep them the day before, then place them in the fridge overnight. Be sure to let the dough come to room temperature before baking, maybe let them sit on the counter for about 30 minutes or so, then bake.
